About Marine Court
In the early 1970s, a group of families on the UBC Endowment Lands, unhappy with increasing rent and insecurity, discussed the concept of forming a co-op. After several failed attempts, the group struck a deal with the Inner City Housing Society to start the Marine Court project in 1983.
Marine Court today represents a cross section of Canadian life, a variety of ages, incomes and occupations. Each member has a say in Co-op operation. Administration of the Co-op is conducted by the Board of Directors which is elected every year from and by members. Specific committees handle specific tasks. Committees are made up of residents according to their own skills and interests.
Marine Court is a member of the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC). You can learn more about co-operative housing from them, as well as the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada.
